I guess you could study Russian or at least the Russian-alphabet to get to know Chechens better, you know? )) I mean, I'm a History major at Tulane (what college do you go to btw?), and I'm studying Russian myself )) |

My Mother's side of the family is where I get my Chechen heritage. My mom can understand it better then I can, and knows a little bit of the language. My dad's family is Czech and Polish. I go to Rutgers University. |

Rutgers is a very prestigious school and i think its great that you're going there! ![]() If you don't mind, I can suggest some resources for you to learn how to write and read Chechen better? ) As some of the folks on Amina.com who know me already know, I am not noxchi, but Bangladeshi-American (I am in love with a Chechen girl), but of course under Chechen traditions (the adat), the prospective husband has to be just-about exceptional if he is non-Chechen; otherwise the parents are disinclined to approve the marriage. So I am studying Chechen as we speak, and Russian as well (it's a gateway into the Chechen language, a little bit, I feel). I also have a lovely YouTube channel, linked below, with plenty of Chechen videos ) Sorry to rant on and on about myself lol! If you don't mind me asking, are you Muslim?

Thank you so much! I think it's great that you are learning as much as you can about Chechnya so you can be with your love. She will be a lucky lady to have such a devoted husband. I am not Muslim, although I can't say i'm not interested. My parents really took the whole Freedom of Religion a little too serious. lol.

There's this one Chechen-English dictionary which is dirt-cheap, and is a must-buy. They have an easy-to-learn grammar section in it, and of course I bought a copy. It's Nick Awde's Chechen-English dictionary, and (omg this link better work!), here is a copy of it on Half.com: http://product.half.ebay.com/Chechen...nfoQQprZ612765 On the other end of the spectrum, there's the super-super-expensive version by Johanna Nichols and Arbi Vagapov, which I personally don't have the money to buy lol (I heard its really comprehensive though!). But I mean, its on the shelves at Tulane's library, so it might be on the shelves of Rutgers' as well. But here is that link in case you were still interested in it: http://product.half.ebay.com/Chechen...74024QQtgZinfo They have a very nice Omniglot page, with the Chechen alphabet alongside a very nice Chechen folk song at the bottom of the page here: http://www.omniglot.com/writing/chechen.htm And finally, there is the super-active Yahoo! Group called the Chechen Language Club (CLC), that's worth looking at: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/chechen_language/ Hope that all helps out! ![]() "She will be a lucky lady to have such a devoted husband." Aww, thank you! That's really nice of you to say that! )) I hope that she feels the same way as well ) And lol, don't worry about the Muslim thing =P I spent many years as an agnostic, before my Chechen bezam turned me to Islam )) |
